The History of Monster Massive Festival

Monster Massive is an annual electronic music festival held the weekend of, or the weekend prior to Halloween night. The festival is Halloween themed and many of the attendees dress in costume. Monster Massive is held annually in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Sources say that a sold-out Monster Massive in 2008 drew well over 60,000 guests, making it one of the biggest dance festivals in North America.

Monster Massive is host to some of the biggest names in electronic dance music, which has included Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Sasha, Felix Da Housecat, Armand Van Helden and many others.

The first Monster Massive was held in 1997 and all subsequent events have been held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Monster Massive 2006 was counted at 30,000 in attendance but 42,000 attended due to the closure of Giant Festival. Monster Massive of 2008 and 2009 had a reported 65,000 tickets sold. 2010 had an attendance of 12,000 due to the death of Sasha Rodriguez at Electric Daisy Carnival in June 2010 from water intoxication which limited the event to ages 18+.
